It’s been a busy couple of months for the Student Association.
In September, we organised three freshers’ fayres across the three campuses. There was a range of stalls from the Glasgow Stags to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and there was even a chance to find out more about Ravie Davie’s wrestling school (Ravie Davie stars in wrestling event at Cardonald campus – The Clyde Insider).
Students were also able to get advice on a variety of issues such as how to keep fit from our friends at Pure Gym, how to keep tabs on your alcohol consumption levels during term time and in-college advice form our mental health lead Alison Cox.

And just as the coursework was beginning to pile up for our students at the end of September, we brought in our furry alpaca friends to help relieve some of that early term stress.
Students were able to pet and feed the animals which have proven to reduce stress amongst humans.
Studies have shown that interacting with alpacas can help reduce stress and anxiety and there are various places throughout the country which promote regular meetings with them as a form of therapy.

When October arrived, we celebrated Halloween in style! Our spooky event at Cardonald saw our colleagues in the Access to Education courses set up stalls with sweet treats, games and activities and there was also a fancy dress competition which saw the Joker (Heath Ledger edition) win best costume.

Keeping with the “spirit” (see what we did there?) of the season, a film afternoon was organised in Langside’s student space where movie fans were able to watch the Nightmare Before Christmas together along with some added snacks and other treats.

Some of our students were given complimentary tickets for Spooktacular – Glasgow’s Halloween themed fun fair attraction and around 30 students were given free tickets to watch Queen’s Park beat Raith Rovers at Lesser Hampden in November. Queen’s Park also donated strips to our ESOL team (Football speaks every language | Glasgow Clyde College).
