As another academic year comes to a close, volunteers at the HND Computing course’s PC clinic are wrapping up for the summer.
The student run service, which has been running for over 10 years has helped over 300 students from across the Cardonald campus.
The clinic allows people from Glasgow Clyde College to get their PCs or laptops fixed if possible.

Lecturer Stuart Thompson said: “We wind down operations every year, so mostly it’s for the first year HN students, that come in. We usually get them to sort of do it for the year that they’re at the college. Then we wind down over summer, come back next year in August and begin again with sort of a fresh new students.”
George Howie, another lecturer, added to that statement by saying: “So, because it is student led, we need students in. So, during the summer holidays, there are no students in, so, it would just be me and Stuart if it was that the case. Me and Stuart really are there are just for extra support.
“The idea is that it’s giving them [HND students] the experience – even about troubleshooting a new device they’ve never used before.”

He added that the program started as a chance to, “give students who’ve never really done any sort of job where they’ve had to sort of fix computers and deal with customers. It’s about them getting that sort of experience, along with the sort of technical aspect of IT for fixing and repairing computers and laptops.”
George also mentioned how they “aimed it specifically at our computing cybersecurity students.”
Both Stuart and George agreed that they would continue the PC clinic as long as they could.
