Finally – it’s the summer holidays. You’ve worked hard on your coursework and studying for your exams. Now you deserve a good rest. But, what will you do with your free time? You could catch up on that film you wanted to watch or play that video game you’ve been longing to have a go at. Here at the Clyde Insider, we have some suggestions from Jessica, Sam, Dominic and Callum.
Avengers: End Game – by Jessica
This movie is a large conclusion to all the previous Marvel movies which have been made before it. It brings all the characters together in one final fight against Thanos in the ultimate battle which will bring balance to the universe.
It’s the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War which takes place just before it. This epic film is around three hours long, so make sure you’ve brought plenty of snacks with you to get through it. Make sure you leave a big gap in your day to watch it in a oner – you don’t want to pause and come back to it.
After Thanos has wiped out half the universe, the super-heroes team up to try to end his tirade. It features, Iron Man, Captain America, Spiderman, Thor, Antman, Hulk, Black Panther, Iron Patriot among others.
This is ultimately one of the best in the Marvel collection and can be viewed on Disney + and is available for most age groups, so you can watch it with your family too.
Grand Theft Auto V – by Sam
This game will keep you busy over the summer. You could play it for the six weeks and still not complete. Why? First of all, there are two different play-styles. You can complete missions by keeping to the rules or you can take the underground path! If you play the business route, you’ll start with making pizzas and owning a car shop. It’s good if you want to keep to the rules, but it’s not as fun and you won’t make money fast. There are also fewer ways of making money through legitimate means.
With the underground route, there are hundreds of missions and you can make a lot of money quickly. There are tonnes of different ways to complete the missions and loads of different outcomes as to how the missions finish. I’ve been playing the online mode for thousands of hours and you can’t complete it. If you want to play the story mode, there are three different characters to choose from and develop their life.
Dracula AD (1972) – by Dominic
This is a British hammer-horror starring the legend that is Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings and Star Wars) who plays Dracula.
Dracula has been resurrected in the 1970s in London. His disciple Alucard (yes, that’s Dracula spelt backwards) brings him back to the city. He’s looking for his next victims in this retro-style film that lasts just over 90 minutes.
It’s a classic gothic horror which Lee is most remembered for and it’s Tim Burton’s favourite film which is saying something! Ideal for a rainy summer’s night. You can purchase it on Amazon Prime from £3.50.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – by Callum
This is a game based on the wild west era from America in the late 18th century. It’s an open play game like Grand Theft Auto and it’s also made by Rockstar, the Dundee based gaming company.
One reason for the game’s popularity is the immersive open world environment which introduces features such as dynamic weather, realistic wildlife and a vast amount of missions and quests to complete. These missions involve things like saving people, carrying out hold-ups and helping random characters you meet along your quests.
It’s got an amazing story if you want to play the story-mode version. It introduces themes such as honour, loyalty and redemption. In this second edition, which is a prequel, Arthur finds Dutch when he’s a boy. They end up having a fall out due to Dutch becoming more crazy.
Like GTA, there are more paths which you can take; if you kill, you have less honour, but if you are kind and save people, you gain honour and loyalty. That then decides your path and ending of the game.
