Current NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder are on the way to having a record-breaking season having only lost one of their first 22 games whilst winning their last 13 games in a row.
This is the best start to a Season since the Golden State Warriors started 24-0. The Warriors went on to have the best regular season ever.
The Thunder’s most recent victory came against the Golden State Warriors.
Last season’s MVP (Most Valuable Player) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been the Thunder’s best player this season averaging 32.8 points 4.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game with a field goal percentage of 54.8% and 43.4% from 3.
Shai’s most notable performance this campaign came against the Indiana Pacers in which he scored 55 points.
As of December 3rd, Fox Sports has him as the favourite to win the MVP award.
Shai isn’t the only player that’s contributing to the success of the Thunder. They currently have seven players averaging over 10 points per game with four of them scoring over 15 points per game.
They aren’t just great on offence they also currently have the best defence in the NBA.
They are only giving up 107 points per game whilst Scoring 122 themselves on average.
As of December 3rd, Thunder centre Chet Holmgren is Fox Sports favourite to win DPOY (Defensive Player Of The Year), he is averaging 18.4 points, 8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
They would be only the sixth team to win both awards.
It isn’t only the players that have won awards. Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault won NBA coach of the year in the 23-24 season after coaching them to the number one seed in the western conference.
He was the second Thunder coach in history to win the award.
Shai had this to say at the time “The best thing about him is no matter who you are he has a standard”.
As great as this start is it doesn’t guarantee a championship as seen in the 2015-16 season in which the Warriors had the best regular season ever and lost in the finals.
There’s still work to do for Daigneault and his team.
