James Forrest gets his fairytale moment and stops St Mirren from spoiling the title party

Celtic’s title celebrations were nearly spoiled by St Mirren on the last day of the season ahead of being presented with the Scottish Premiership trophy.

Celtic made nine changes from the victory over Aberdeen, while the Buddies made one change from their 2-2 draw with Hibs.

St Mirren knew before the game that if they could find a win at Celtic Park and results went in their favour elsewhere, Steven Robinson would lead them to Europe for the second consecutive season.

Both teams could not find the back of the net in the first half and would go into half-time at 0-0.

In the second half, it would be St Mirren who struck first with a goal from Jonah Ayunga in the 51st minute to stun the soon-to-be champions.

Celtic struggled to break down St Mirren, who were well organised all afternoon.

The Hoops brought on James Forest in the 54th minute – he was still looking to score this season and if he did, he would have a goal in each of the last 16 seasons he has played for the Hoops.

It would seem it was written in the stars for 33-year-old to have his fairytale moment, as club’s most decorated player scored the equaliser in the 92nd minute to continue his streak.

The Celtic winger spoke about the delight of scoring for the 16th consecutive season, stating, “Relief. I was just buzzing, I don’t think you could have written it any better. Everybody has been wanting me to score and get the record, so I’m just happy to do it for everyone.”

Former Celtic player and manager Neil Lennon also spoke about the consistency of Forrest, stating: “Jamesie is very, very, very quiet but his leadership comes in what he does – how he carries himself, he’s a manager’s dream.”
