A TikTok influencer is being investigated after videos showing him filming on a CalMac ferry using Meta smart glasses were shared online.
Scott Margerison, who is known online as E-Dobbins, filmed footage while travelling on the MV Loch Seaforth between Ullapool and Stornoway.
The videos show Margerison during a visit to the ferry’s bridge, as well as footage recorded around the vessel. He was using Meta smart glasses, which have cameras built into the frames.
The incident has attracted attention online, with concerns being raised about people being filmed without knowing they were being recorded.
Police Scotland has confirmed it is aware of the videos and is assessing the footage to establish whether any criminality has taken place.
This does not mean that Margerison has been found to have committed an offence.
CalMac also reportedly paused visits to the bridge following the incident.
The MV Loch Seaforth operates on the Ullapool to Stornoway route, which provides an important transport link between the Scottish mainland and the Isle of Lewis.
The use of smart glasses has also raised wider questions about privacy and consent. Unlike using a phone or traditional camera, it may not always be obvious to people nearby that they are being recorded.
The incident comes as wearable cameras become increasingly popular among social media creators, who use them to produce first-person content for platforms such as TikTok.
The original TikTok footage has since been removed from the platform. However, the incident has continued to be reported by other news organisations, including the Ross-shire Journal and The Inverness Courier.
The case highlights the importance of checking user-generated content before reporting it, particularly when footage could lead to allegations against an individual.
Police Scotland’s assessment of the videos is ongoing, and no conclusion about whether an offence has taken place has been announced.
