Fire crews were called out to an incident at one the world’s most famous gaming
companies yesterday.
It’s after an explosion in the boiler room at Rockstar North’s headquarters in
Edinburgh which forced employees to evacuate the Barclay House office building.
The area was cordoned off with emergency services quickly on the scene –
fortunately, there were no casualties.
Its been an eventful couple of months following a recent workers’ protest outside the studio and the
announcement that the new Grand Theft Auto title had been delayed again to this
November.
A Rockstar Games spokesman told further updates on the situation and the true
impact of the explosion that it was due to a ‘malfunction’ with one of the heating boiler, saying: “Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess
the situation,”
Later, the spokesman hinted that its game development for titles like GTA 6 was not
affected by the incident, saying: Please know that everyone is well and our studio
remains open and operational.”
GTA 6 is expected to cost a huge $2 billion to make, more than any game ever and
is predicted to have the highest sales of any game as well.
Recently in relation to GTA 6 news, Rockstar has granted A terminally ill fan of the video game series has reportedly been granted early access to GTA 6 following a plea from a family member.
Ubisoft developer Anthony Armstrong wrote on Linkden saying: “The reason I am reaching out is that they are a huge GTA fan and, with this latest update, he may not be around long enough to actually get to see GTA 6 launch,”
“Best case scenario he will be leaving us the same month it does… It’s my hope that one of you may be able to set up an exclusive playtest, so he can have a chance to experience the game before passing.”
Weeks later he updated and said: “We spoke to them today and got great news. That’s all I can really say, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
