The Glasgow Clyde College Student Association (GCCSA) has announced its new student president and vice presidents for the 2025-26 academic year.
Madeeha Kanwal becomes the new president and Shory Lee, Cullan Buchan and Verity Oneill will take the roles as vice president.
And they have already been busy, taking part in a podcast (scroll to the end of the article to listen to it) and fielding questions from the journalism students.
The GCCSA is an essential part of student life as the team works with the college to improve student wellbeing, independent of the specific campus or location. It is also responsible for running activities across campuses, offering volunteering opportunities and helping students to set up clubs and societies.
Every year, the association runs an election for one brand new full-time president and an additional four part-time vice presidents.
Only HND students are able to run for student president – this is because the college offers a full-time paid position for the successful candidate in the upcoming August. This amazing opportunity allows students to work alongside the college’s student association officers, even after they graduate and therefore allowing them to gain work experience.
Voting took place between April 28th and May 2nd with students across all three campuses eligible to vote via Canvas. Every student who voted was also automatically entered into an incredible free prize draw for a chance to win one of five exciting prizes!
The prizes up for grabs included a tablet, two digital notepads and two Stanley cups. The winners were selected at random and contacted on the day of the election results. The purpose of this fun competition was to encourage all students to show support for one another by selecting who they want to see as the new Student Association Officer Team.
Students were able to view what each competitor had to offer via Canvas to help them make their decision on what changes they want to see within the college. Each campus was also decorated with flyers to promote the students campaigning for these roles.
