Another Labour MP issues apology for controversial WhatsApp

Oliver Ryan, an MP from the Labour Party, has been revealed as the second member of the controversial WhatsApp group, and has issued an apology for not speaking out against the alleged texts.

Last night, Mr. Ryan issued a statement on X outlining the history of the WhatsApp group chat named ‘Trigger Me Timbers’ and what was said on it, which was apparently “completely unacceptable” in terms of the nature from him. He also stated that he made some comments of his own which he apologises for.

The Burnley representative said: “I also made some comments myself which I deeply regret… I wholeheartedly apologise.” All of this after the health minister, Andrew Gwynne was sacked for alleged racist and sexist remarks sent in the same chat.

Mr. Gwynne, was sacked on Saturday over similar remarks in the same group chat, one involving a constituent, supposedly joking about them being ‘mown down’ by a truck. One of the comments about a constituent read: “I had positive visions of him getting mown down by an Elsa Waste HGV while he’s cycling to the Fallowfield Loop… We couldn’t be that lucky.”

According to the Mail yesterday, Senior official said that Labour will punish other MPs/Ministers caught up in the scandal.

The Conservative Shadow Paymaster General, Richard Holden said on Sunday that the whole situation should be Keir Starmer’s biggest priority, while the Conservative party demands a larger investigation on that Sunday evening: “With hateful remarks being spewed by senior Labour figures, getting to the bottom of this situation should be Keir Starmer’s top priority.” Also adding that Keir Starmer shouldn’t take this as an opportunity to delay any action with Members of Parliament involved, “Sir Keir should not hide behind process to delay action, especially with concerns that there were more Members of Parliament, councillors and Labour members involved.”
