President Trump has vowed to 1000% follow through on imposing tariffs on European countries who oppose his demand to take control of Greenland.
On Monday, Trump said he will not rule out the use of force and instead said he would press ahead with the threatened 10% tariff on goods arriving in the US from the UK and multiple other Nato countries.
The United States has made several attempts to obtain the island of Greenland from Denmark since the 19th century.
In 2019, President Trump expressed his desire to purchase Greenland however it was turned down and described as “absurd” by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
In 2025 his desire for Greenland was reignited when he advocated for American Expansionism. Following Greenlander and Danish refusal to sell the country, trump has threatened to invade Greenland, which would break international law.
In a post to Truth Social in the early hours of this morning the US President said he had a “very good telephone call” with Nato secretary general Mark Rutte, and that there is an agreement in place for a meeting of “various parties” in Switzerland this week.

The tariff announcement has triggered a scramble between European leaders to come up with a solution against Trump.
French President Emmanuel Macron, in a text message that trump shared to Truth Social stated that “My friend, we are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland.
“Let us try and build great things.”

In one of his last posts of the night the Trump added that “NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that “you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland.” Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!.”
