Childhood drawings by renowned fashion designer Stella McCartney were recently sold at an auction in Dunfermline.
The drawings, sold alongside letters and invoices, were on auction at Bowler and Binnie in Dunfermline, Fife. Taking place on Friday the 24th of January, the items sold for £200. There are several other gems within the bundle, including letters personally addressed to her famous father, The Beatles star Paul McCartney.
According to an auction website, these finds are from when her family lived at High Park Farm in Kintyre. They lived there in the 1960s and 1970s, their life on the farm a far cry from the fast-paced existence Paul had previously had as a member of the world’s most famous band. The farm was to provide a welcome escape from the fame and was a place of refuge in which to retreat when The Beatles broke up. His children Stella and James partly grew up there, a formative time in Stella’s childhood where she was first able to begin exercising her creativity.

Stella has received great acclaim for her work, including winning Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Her designs have been worn by the likes of Meghan Markle, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Natalie Portman. She is particularly known for her commitment to sustainable luxury fashion, driving change within an industry known for its harmful impact on the environment.
Adrianne, a staff member at the auction house, spoke to The Clyde Insider on the rare find. “It’s not very often we come across this sort of item but every now and again we do get a rare find and this is one of these items. We always say to our customers to keep an eye on our website for the opportunity to buy some of the rare historic finds we do come across.”
