Netflix’s Baby Reindeer dominated the limited series category at last night’s Emmys by winning six awards.
The emotional Netflix drama took home best lead actor, best supporting actress and best limited or anthology series amongst others.
The series has been surrounded by controversy as supposed real life Martha – Fiona Harvey – is suing the streaming giant for $170 Million after she was outed by the media since the show’s release earlier this year. Harvey is suing for defamation, negligence and privacy violations.
The show skyrocketed to popularity as people had previously been speculating about the true identity of the show’s main villain Martha. The story is based on the real-life experience from writer and star Richard Gadd. The programme dives into his experience being stalked by a mentally ill woman.
Appearing in a kilt, during his acceptance speech for best limited series, Gadd referenced the previous hardships he faced by saying: “Nothing lasts forever. No matter how bad it gets, it always gets better Keep going, and i promise you things will be okay.”
Jessica Gunning who portrayed Martha in the show was also victorious gaining an award for best supporting actress. In her speech she saved her “biggest thanks” for Richard Gadd, saying ‘I’ve tried so many times to put into words what working on Baby Reindeer meant to me, and I fail every time.”
Fiona Harvey (above, right) does not share the same positive outlook on the show as it has deemed her as a stalker. Earlier this year she appeared on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored where she was asked why she went public. She replied that: “Internet sleuths tracked me down and hounded me, and gave me death threats, so it wasn’t really a choice I was forced into this situation.”
Her legal case is still ongoing against Netflix, with a trial date set for the 6th of May 2025.
