CD Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel Almeda has died following a horror incident in a game on Monday evening, the club has announced.
Miguel, aged 30, who signed for the Spanish side at the beginning of the 25/26 season was a well-loved goalscorer by fans, having scoring 11 goals last season for the Spanish second division side last season.
The collision occurred when Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono raced from his position to challenge De Miguel for the ball deep into stoppage time of a LaLiga2 fixture at Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez.
Owono was pictured visibly upset after being given his marching orders due to colliding with Miguel.
The canary club confirmed his death on their site stating: “Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic death, that this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.”
Following the match, Miguel was issued into the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital where he was initially “stable” but in a serious condition.
However, updates in the early hours of Tuesday morning confirmed Miguel had “worsened neurologically”.
With the game being tied at 2-2, the match was abandoned after the incident due to the serious injuries caused.
FC Andorra took to X to express their sadness: “With broken hearts and devastation, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesus de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife. Rest in peace.”
A statement from the league read: “We wish to express our deep sadness over the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda. We share in the grief of his family, his loved ones, and @CDTOficial during these very difficult times. All our affection and support. Rest in peace.”
Other Spanish clubs made statements in connection to the devastating news.
Giants Real Madrid paid their respects to the death: “Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family, his teammates, his club, and all his loved ones.
FC Barcelona added: ” From FC Barcelona, we are deeply saddened by the tragic news of the passing of Jesus de Miguel, CD Tenerife player. Our thoughts and support are with his family, friends and loved ones during these difficult times.”
